At around this age your baby will begin to be able to tell the difference between themselves and the rest of the world. Your little one is also likely to stay awake for slightly longer periods during the day. This gives them time to take in and learn from their surroundings.
Your baby’s hand eye coordination is just starting to develop. Baby’s hands can now open and shut. You may find your baby is able to take a swipe at a dangling toy or even grab a toy and put it in their mouth. They will begin to notice the difference between hard and soft too. Your little one is also rapidly gaining confidence moving their limbs and holding their head up.
Baby’s hearing and vision are rapidly improving. You may notice your baby enjoys listening to music or turns their head at the sound of your voice. Visually, your baby will enjoy looking at bright colours because of the sharp contrasts. Your little one may also start to notice their own reflection in the mirror and will be fascinated by faces.
While actual words are still a little way off, your baby is discovering their voice. Listen out for contented coos, happy squeals and general babble. Encourage your baby’s interest in sound by singing, reading and talking to them.
During the next few months your baby will hone and develop these basic skills. Soon they will be able to grab a toy and bring it up to their mouth. They will also begin to understand how one action can lead to another.
