Dr. Hemstreet was trained on a fixed C-arm imaging system and is very experienced at using it in a hospital setting. One of his greatest concerns was being able to deliver a quality product in an office-based setting. The Philips Veradius Unity has met his expectations. The system’s ease of use has also far exceeded his expectations.

“In order to make an office-based lab work, you have to be efficient. And this unit has been remarkable in allowing us to do that,” says Hemstreet. “The user interface is exceptional in that I alone can make some changes to the exam without having to instruct anybody else, which allows me to get exactly what I want. And as an interventional cardiologist, I’m fairly particular.” The Philips Veradius Unity has several different presets and a touch screen interface, allowing the physician to easily adjust individual shutters with a fingertip and easily get the images he needs himself.

Vital imaging guidance

“Just yesterday, we treated a patient who came in with lower left leg ischemia. And it was very important that there was single vessel runoff that had a very tortuous takeoff,” says Dr. Hemstreet. “It was the ability of the Veradius C-arm to be manipulated to a certain angle and provide excellent image quality for us to be able to wire this vessel and in turn, balloon and do an atherectomy there, which essentially provided the blood flow that her leg needed to keep her foot.” At the end of the case, a single user can usually move the C-arm out of the way and get the patient off the table in an expeditious manner to enhance the patient experience as well.

Comprehensive cardiovascular practice

Alabama Heart and Vascular Medicine is a comprehensive cardiovascular practice in an office-based lab setting. It is dedicated not only to treating patients' symptoms, but also to building an effective physician/patient relationship. A variety of peripheral vascular procedures are performed here, including both venous and arterial procedures, primarily for the lower extremity.
