Most babies begin their introduction to solid food at around 6-months old. But at this age your baby’s main source of nutrition will still come from milk.
The aim is just to introduce your baby to the notion of solid foods such as baby rice and fruit puree. Bottle fed babies will still need between 800ml-900ml (17-20oz) of milk over a 24-hour period. By 6-months babies tend to need feeding less frequently than before. Aim for about 5 evenly spaced 200ml/4oz feeding sessions a day. Feed on demand if you’re breast feeding.
Your baby will let you know if they are hungry. As always be prepared for days when your baby seems extra hungry. They could be entering a growth spurt.
